A cargo truck has hit the vertical clearance of Guadalupe Bridge along J.P Rizal st. in Makati City on Tuesday, Sept. 27, bringing traffic in the area to a halt.
"Siguro, hindi ho napansin nung driver yung vertical clearance kaya sumabit po yung kanyang container van (Maybe the driver of the truck failed to notice the vertical clearance that's why his cargo truck hit it)," Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Rescue Head Edward Gonzales said in an interview with DZBB.
"Nung sumabit po yung container van, yung 40-footer, yung kalahati po nya eh nahulog po (When the 40- footer truck hit the vertical clearance, half of the container fell to the ground)," he added.
Gonzales explained that due to the low vertical clearance of the bridge, the authorities had to drop the rest of the container so that their forklift may operate in clearing the debris.
He said they are now waiting for the other trailer truck to arrive to transfer the dropped container.
No one was injured in the incident.
The official said that the driver may face violation of reckless driving and the trailer truck will be impounded.
Meanwhile, the MMDA has reported a massive traffic jam in the area due to the incident which has occupied one whole lane.
