Abalos honors 5 rescuers who died in Bulacan


Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Benjamin “Benhur’ Abalos Jr. honored the five rescuers from Bulacan who died during a rescue mission at the height of super typhoon Karding on Sept. 25.

“Our snappy salute to Narciso Calayag, Jerson Resurreccion, Marvy Bartolome, George Agustin, and Troy Justin Agustin of the BPDRRMO for responding to the call of duty and rendering an unequivocal testament of genuine public service even at the expense of their own lives,’’ Abalos said.

Reports on the ground disclosed that the five rescuers went missing the night of Sept. 25 after being buried by a collapsing wall while on board a boat.They were on their way to their rescue mission.

Their cadavers were later discovered in Sitio Banga-Banga, Barangay Camias, San Miguel, Bulacan.

“May we all find inspiration in their dedication to duty and be comforted that their lives were not wasted and were lived for the service of their fellow Filipinos,’’ he continued. (Chito A. Chavez)
