Senior citizen killed, village dad injured in 'Karding' onslaught in Polillo Island
A 70-year-old man died and a barangay kagawad (councilor) was injured during the onslaught of typhoon “Karding” in Polillo Island, Quezon on Sunday, Sept. 25.
The Quezon Police Provincial Office identified the fatality as Eli Alberto, single, of Sitio Subok, Barangay Aluyon, Burdeos and the injured as Jonathan Santoalla, 46, barangay kagawad of Bañadero, Polillo.
Alberto died in a landslide at 7:30 p.m. and his body was retrieved by rescuers on Monday, Sept. 26, at 9:45 a.m.
Santoalla said he was repairing the roof of his house at 3 p.m. when he slipped and fell to the ground. He sustained injuries and was taken to the Polillo Medicare Hospital.
Meanwhile, 1,213 families composed of 4,636 individuals were evacuated in Polillo, Panukulan, Real, Pagbilao, and Tayabas and Lucena cities due to Karding. Evacuees are staying in 67 evacuation centers.
Jomalig, Panukulan, Polillo, and Infanta have no electricity. The Polillo to Burdeos road in Barangay Poblacion in Burdeos is impassable and a clearing operation in ongoing as of posting time.
