Over 600 families from vulnerable barangays and areas in the city of Manila were preemptively evacuated on Sunday, Sept. 25, due to typhoon "Karding”, the city government said on Monday, Sept. 26.
According to lawyer Princess Abante, City of Manila communications head, a total of 653 families or 2598 individuals were brought to various evacuation centers in the city.
As of 2: 15 a.m. on Monday, at least 210 affected families are currently at Baseco Evacuation Center; 58 families at Benigno Aquino Elementary School; 85 families at Corazon Aquino High School; 17 families at Atienza High School; 70 families at Barangay 101 Covered Court; 74 families at Isabelo Delos Reyes Elementary School; 63 families at Barangay 105 Covered Court; 128 families at Barangay 128, Building 18; and 66 families at Fugoso (Delpan) Covered Court.
“I think expected po natin gumanda ang panahon mamaya. So kung ok na po, baka maari na po sila umuwi. Depende po sa magiging forecast ng weather (I think we expect the weather to improve later. So if it’s okay already, maybe they can go home. It depends on the weather forecast),” said Abante.
Manila was among the areas placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 due to typhoon Karding on Sunday.
As of 5 a.m. on Monday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said tropical cyclone wind signals were lifted or lowered in most areas in Luzon as typhoon Karding moved out of the country’s landmass.
