Google offers a solution for spam SMS

Receiving a continuous barrage of spam messages is not only disturbing, it has also become worrisome as these messages have escalated into carrying personal information. This has been a subject of worry for many Filipinos who unfortunately get multiple spam messages a day in their inboxes.

Fortunately, Android devices can help block these messages from reaching your inbox. Here are some ways you can protect yourself from unwanted messages:

Download Google Messages and make it your default messaging app

Google Messages provides end-to-end encryption that allows no one, including Google and third parties, to read eligible messages as they travel between devices. It also contains built-in spam protection that allows users to block and report spammers, block entire conversations, and flag any suspected spam messages.

Simply download Google Messages (Google LLC) and make it your default messaging app, activate the Spam Protection feature by clicking Settings > General > Spam Protection, and lastly, turn on Spam Protection.

Block the spam message from the main menu of the message

You can also block spam messages as they arrive. When youopen the spam message, click the three parallel dots on the upper right corner of the message screen, select block, and tap OK.

This will delete the message and block the number from sending you any more messages.

Report spam within a chat thread

Help your device and your messaging app identify spam messages by reporting them. You can do so within the chat thread.

Open the spam message and if you see a window that gives you the option to either save the number as a contact or report spam, click “Report Spam.” This will both delete the message and help with the device’s spam detection.

Download Google Messages from the Play Store now and free yourself from receiving spam messages. Learn more about Google Messages here.
