Five rescuers from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) in the province of Bulacan died after being washed away by flash flood while conducting rescue operations in San Miguel town at the height of Super Typhoon Karding.
On Monday, Sept. 26, Katrina Anne B. Balingit, Provincial Public Affairs Office (PPAO) chief said the four rescuers were confirmed dead while the body of one rescuer who remained missing until late Sunday was found on Monday morning.
Police identified the victims as Narciso Calayag, Jerson Resurreccion, Marby Bartolome, George Agustin, and Troy Justin Agustin.
She said the victims were all members of the Bulacan PDRRMO rescue team.
Balingit, citing a PDRRMO report, said the rescuers were on their way to a rescue operation when their truck broke down. They decided to use a boat going to Barangay Camias
In the report, the rescue team was suddenly hit by a hard wall that collapsed and they were carried away by the flash floods.
