75 passengers in Cebu stranded due to bad weather from ‘Karding’


CEBU CITY – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said 75 passengers were stranded on Sunday, Sept. 25, after several sea trips in different ports in Cebu were cancelled due to bad weather from typhoon “Karding.”

Philippine Coast Guard in Central Visayas (PCG 7) spokesperson Lt. Jr. Grade Krysta Bergantin said Monday, Sept. 26, that 15 passengers bound for Camotes Island were stranded in the Port of Danao.

Sixty more passengers bound for Hilongos, Leyte were also stranded since Sunday.

While the Danao to Hilongos trips have resumed, some shipping lines suspended their trips on Monday, Bergantin said.

Cancelled vessel trips on Monday include Bogo to Masbate, Bogo to Palompon, Leyte; Cordova to Olango Island, Camotes to Danao, and Cebu to Dipolog City.

Karding spared the Visayas and as of 8 a.m. Monday, Karding was spotted 190 kilometers west of Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

The tropical cyclone is expected to exit the country on Monday night.
