The local government units of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela (Camanava) and Quezon City are prepared for the possible effects of the super typhoon “Karding” that is expected to hit parts of Metro Manila and other neighboring provinces.
“Nagpulong na po ang DRRM (Disaster Risk Reduction and Management) Council at nakapagbigay na po tayo ng instruction sa lahat po ng ahensiya ng ating lokal na pamahalaan no, pero pangunahin dito ay ang forced evacuation ng lahat ng mga komunidad na nakatira sa mga tinatawag nating high-risk, hazard prone areas (The DRRM (Disaster Risk Reduction and Management) Council already held a meeting and we have given instructions to all the agencies of our local government, mainly for forced evacuation of all the communities that are in what we call high-risk, hazard prone areas),” Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a interview with DZBB Super Radyo on Sunday, Sept. 25.
Belmonte said she expects thousands of residents to get evacuated due to the heavy rains and barangay officials in the high-risk communities are already conducting force evacuations.
She added that relief goods for the residents and the equipment for rescue operations are ready.
Meanwhile, Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie Wes Gatchalian also held a meeting with their local DRRMC for preparations and precautionary measures including pre-emptive evacuations for families in flood prone areas, availability of the evacuation centers, rescue personnel, among others.
The city's “Libreng Sakay” trucks were also prepared for deployment.
Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan, Navotas City Mayor John Reynald “John Rey” Tiangco, and Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval also announced on Sunday that their city governments and disaster response teams are ready for the super typhoon.
“Kasalukuyan na pong nakataas sa red alert status and atin Operation Center at inatasan natin ang bawat barangay na manatilin nakamonitor sa lagay ng panahon (Our Operation Center is currently on red alert status and we have instructed each barangay to monitor the weather),” Malapitan said.
“Base sa report ng PAGASA , inaasahan na ngayong gabi natin mararamdaman ang malalakas na hangin at ulan na dala ng Bagyong Karding. Para sa kaligtasan ng lahat, importante po na makalikas ang mga nasa tabing-dagat o ilog bago gumabi. Makipag-ugnay po sa inyong barangay ( Based on PAGASA's report, it is expected that this evening we will feel the strong winds and rain brought by Typhoon Karding. For everyone's safety, it is important that those on the beach or river evacuate before nightfall. Please coordinate your barangays),” Tiangco said.
Meanwhile, the Malabon City government said that its Malabon Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMC) is ready to respond to city residents who are in need.

As of 11 a.m. on Sunday, Metro Manila was placed by PAGASA under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 due to the Super Typhoon Karding.
