Police nab driver in hit-and-run of elderly street sweeper in Parañaque
The driver of sports utility vehicle (SUV) who ran over and abandoned an elderly street sweeper in Parañaque on Sept. 24 was arrested and is now facing a complaint of reckless imprudence resulting to serious physical injury.
The suspect was identified as Raymond Zaparain, 42, a resident of Las Piñas City.
Caught on video that went viral on social media, the victim, Dorren Bacus, was seen collecting trash at the corner of Elizalde and Aguirre Avenues in Barangay BF Homes when she was hit by a white Mitsubishi Pajero around 7:30 a.m.
She was immediately rushed by concerned citizens to the Ospital ng Parañaque and was later transferred to the Philippine General Hospital for treatment.
According to the city police chief, Col. Renato Ocampo, Zaparain was apprehended after he was identified through a CCTV footage.
Ocampo said the driver claimed that he was not under any influence during the incident.
The driver said he did not notice the victim as he was attending a call and he was lacking in sleep.
