DPWH quick response teams dispatched in super typhoon ‘Karding’ hit areas

Teams from the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are now strategically stationed in the road sections included in the track of severe tropical storm ‘Karding.’

In a statement issued on Sunday, Sept. 25, DPWH Sec. Manuel Bonoan said he also directed all DPWH offices in areas that will be affected by the weather disturbance to preposition teams in landslides and flash floods.

The DPWH Bureau of Maintenance stated that the quick response teams consisting of 8,963 personnel and 1,590 units of equipment were tasked to monitor the state of the roads in the entire Luzon and Western Visayas as early as Saturday, Sept. 24.

Relying on the forecast of the state weather bureau, the DPWH teams are now deployed in all the eight Luzon regions which will probably be hit by ‘Karding’ to ensure their quick response and access on the vital national roads.

The DRRM teams have also conducted other standard protocols in preparation for typhoon ‘Karding’ which include pruning of trees, declogging of drainage and clearing of waterways along national roads. (Chito A. Chavez)
