Barangay San Antonio in Pasig City allotted around P5 million worth of scholarship grants to its indigent student residents in 2022 as part of its efforts in helping the local government strengthen the education sector.
The barangay has a total of 149 grantees so far in 2022 and has spent a maximum of P50,000 annual stipend per student.
The amount for students' tuition varies wherein scholars can each get up to P25,000 per semester. They also receive a P1,500 monthly allowance.
Barangay Chairman Thomas Raymond Lising assured they will continuously provide enough assistance for their scholars and invest in more similar programs for 2023.
“BSA will continue to invest in the education of the less-privileged, especially for those who would want to pursue their studies. For next year, we will push to increase the budget allocation of our scholarship program in anticipation of more scholarship grants,” Lising said in a statement.
Complimentary to the financial aid, scholars are given ATM cards to make it more accessible and convenient. Notably, Barangay San Antonio is the first barangay in Pasig to enact such an initiative.
Only permanent residents of Barangay San Antonio can avail of the scholarship grant.
Interested and qualified students must present a valid ID showing proof of residence, as well as proof of financial capacities such as an income tax return (ITR).
For other Pasig citizens who want to avail of scholarship grants but are non-residents of the barangay, they may try their luck in applying for the local government's Pasig City Scholarship Program (PCSP).
Applicants for the PCSP may inquire and coordinate with the Pasig City Scholars Office or visit their official Facebook Page for further news and announcements.
