MGB: 166 villages in Region 2 at risk for floods, landslides from 'Karding'

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) said 166 barangays in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) are risk for landslides and flooding from severe tropical storm “Karding.”

In a pre-disaster risk assessment meeting Friday, Sept. 23, MGB Geologist Leslie Mejares said that based on the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration forecast of rains from the tropical cyclone, 141 barangays in eight municipalities in Nueva Vizcaya may be at risk; 21 barangays in four towns in Quirino, and four barangays in four municipalities in Cagayan.

No barangays were identified as highly susceptible to flooding and landslides in Isabela and Batanes.

Mejares urged residents of Isabela and Batanes not be complacent even though no barangays are at risk from landslides and flooding.
