100 Leftist supporters yield in Quezon


SAN NARCISO, Quezon – One-hundred members of mass organizations affiliated with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) surrendered to the government here on Thursday, Sept. 22.

They took their oath of allegiance in a ceremony in Barangay Abuyon.

The surrenderers were 28 active Militiang Bayan (MB), one member of the Sangay ng Partido sa Localidad (SPL) platoon Reymark under Sub-Regional Military Area (SRMA-4B), and 71 members of United Farmers Association, all from Barangays Abuyon and Bani here.

Quezon police director Col. Ledon Monte, Col. Joel Johnson of the 85th Infantry Battalion, 201st Infantry Brigade, the Municipal Task Force to End Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC) chaired by San Narciso Mayor Florabelle Uy-Yap, and ELCAC counterparts from regional and provincial government agencies witnessed the mass surrender.

The mass surrender was a result of the two-month-long joint intelligence and Retooled Community Support Program-Civil Military Operations (RCSP-CMO) efforts of the military led by Johnson and the 2nd Quezon Provincial Mobile Force Company headed by Major Rodelio Calawit and supported by the local police led by Major Eric Veluz.

The surrenderers were properly vetted and have undergone custodial debriefing, authorities said.
