Korean contestant who joined 'Produce 101' passes away due to suicide
A Korean contestant on the survival audition show “Produce 101” season 2 passed away due to suicide, his mother announced. He was 30.
Jung Joong-ji died on Sept. 9, according to a post by his mother on Twitter on Sept. 20. He was buried on Sept. 11.

“I am Jung Joong-ji’s mother. My son Joong-ji took his own life. I can't put into words how I feel right now,” her mother posted on Twitter along with two photos of her son.
He joined Mnet’s “Produce 101” season 2 in 2017 as a contestant from Wayz Company. He ranked 64th and was eliminated from the show.
Jung Joong-ji also acted in plays “Prison” and “Essence of Love.” He won in the actor category at the 2017 The Hanbit Awards given by a hallyu organizing committee. In 2018, he held his first fan meeting.
The “Produce 101” season 2 produced the K-pop boy band Wanna One composed of Kang Daniel, Ong Seong-wu, Hwang Min-hyun, Ha Sung-woon, Kim Jae-hwan, Park Ji-hoon, Bae Jin-young, Lee Dae-hwi, Yoon Ji-sung, Park Woo-jin and Lai Kuan-lin.
