Truck laden with hogs plunges into ravine in Nueva Vizcaya, driver, helper injured, 42 hogs dead


DIADI, Nueva Vizcaya -- A cargo truck laden with 75 hogs fell into a ravine in Barangay Nagsabaran in this town, causing injuries to its driver and helper, and death to 42 hogs on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

The Nueva Vizcaya Police Provincial Office identified the driver as Felipe Villafuerte, 64, while his helper was identified as Efren Gaspar 41. Both are residents of Guiguinto, Bulacan.

The truck was proceeding to the national road in Nagsabaran in Diadi town when, upon reaching a downward portion of the highway, its brake malfunctioned.

The driver lost control of the truck which went all the way to the ravine.

The driver and helper sustained injuries and were rushed to Diadi Emergency Hospital before they were later transferred to another hospital in Bayombong.

The vehicle incurred damages while 42 of the 75 hogs died in the accident, while some were injured, according to investigator on case police Staff Sergeant Emil Jan Vincent V. De Vera.
