San Mateo, Rizal marks 450th anniversary


A day filled with activities will mark San Mateo, Rizal's 450th founding anniversary on Wednesday, Sept. 21, having been declared a non-working holiday by Malacanang.

The office of Mayor Bartolome Rivera, Jr. announced that a morning motorcade will kick-start the town's anniversary at 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. from the San Mateo Chapel in Barangay Dulong Bayan 1 to Nuestra Senora De Aranzazu Church and back to the San Mateo Chapel to be participated in by municipal employees.

According to the advisory posted by the San Mateo Public Information Office on its Facebook page, the motorcade will pass General Luna Avenue towards the parish church then to M.H. Del Pilar Street, to portion of Kambal Road, then to Daang Bakal, then to Patiis Road, then Valerio Street, ending at the chapel.

The municipal government will also lead the Gawad Parangal for the 450th Founding Anniversary of San Mateo wherein several individuals and institutions will be recognized for their contributions to the development of the town.

Rizal Governor Nina Ricci Ynares (Chiongbian) will give a special message during the morning program.

The ‘PINASLAKAS’ (Covid-19 Vaccination) will also take place at SM City San Mateo and Gloryville Purok 2 in Barangay Silangan from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

A concert dubbed as “Pasasalamat” (Thanksgiving) will be held at Monterock in Dulong Bayan 1 featuring local bands and Noel Cabangon, 6Cyclemind, Hey June!, 3rd Avenue and Bassilyo.

On Sept. 9, former Executive Secretary Atty. Victor Rodriguez signed Proclamation No. 54, by the authority of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., declaring Sept. 21 as a non working holiday in San Mateo to give the people “full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to the public health measures of the national government.”
