PCG, AFP, PNP ink 2 agreements to enhance peace, security cooperation

Two agreements have been signed by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and Philippine National Police (PNP) to foster deeper collaboration in enhancing the peace and security situation in the country.

The signing of the agreements was held during the 3rd Quarter Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Center (JPSCC) Conference hosted by the PCG in Manila on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

The high-level meeting was attended by PCG commandant Admiral Artemio Abu, AFP chief of staff Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro, and PNP acting deputy chief for operations Maj. Gen. Benjamin Santos Jr.

During the conference, the security officials signed JPSCC Resolutions Number 14-2022 and 15-2022.

The first resolution adopts a threat level assessment / conditions and its corresponding security measures for the prevention and suppression of civil disturbance and lawless violence to ensure unhampered national governmental functions.

Meanwhile, the second resolution effectively creates a technical working group (TWG) that will assess the joint AFP-PNP campaign plan “KAPANATAGAN” 2019-2022 for the formulation of a new security campaign plan involving the PCG.

The campaign plan KAPANATAGAN 2019-2022 was created in 2018 as a counter-insurgency approach by the administration of then President Rodrigo Duterte.

“We look forward to these developments as our commitment to the tripartite agreement has never been stronger,” Admiral Abu said. (Martin A. Sadongdong)
