Private school teachers hold demo-teaching workshop to fight disinformation
To commemorate the 50th year of Martial Law declaration this year, groups organized a demo-teaching workshop for teachers and academicians.

ACT Private Schools with Tanggol Wika and Tanggol Kasaysayan conducted “Turo-Saysay: Demo-Teaching Festival and Workshop on Teaching Martial Law Lessons” last week.
The activity showcased the demonstration teaching of invited teachers and academicians to illustrate how the Martial Law topic can be integrated into classroom lessons on Mathematics, Filipino, Social Studies, Media and Information Technology, Literature, and other subjects and courses from elementary to college levels.
From the demo-teaching and lectures, participants developed lesson guides through a workshop, which they can use in their classes and can share with other teachers across the country for free.
“As a teachers’ organization, Turo-Saysay is one of our many responses and efforts to fulfil our duty of keeping our schools as free and critical spaces for learning,” said
Turo-Saysay project director Jonathan Geronimo.
Geronimo said that the group aims to promote history that leans towards the “heroic narratives of our people who fought to regain their rights, democracy and freedom” against the dictatorial rule.
“It is also our objective to educate the people to be vigilant against any repeat of such plunder, repression and exploitation, especially now that the Marcoses and their allies are back in the highest seat of power,” he added.
During the activity, Tanggol Kasaysayan convener Francis Gealogo discussed in his keynote speech “The Teachers’ Role in Combatting Disinformation and Historical Distortion.”
Michael Pante of Ateneo de Manila University and David Michael San Juan of De La Salle University also gave short lectures on teaching strategies and the inter-disciplinary approaches to discussing Martial Law.
The online activity was attended by teachers from both public and private schools, as well as education students from different normal colleges and universities.
The participants also had fruitful exchanges on various strategies and techniques on how educators can actively contribute to fighting disinformation and historical distortion about Martial Law.
