A 33-year-old man was arrested for allegedly firing a gun inside a bar in Barangay 178, Caloocan City early Saturday morning , Sept. 17.
Police identified the suspect as Tomy Nikko Ong, from Valenzuela City, who entered the bar at around 12:15 a.m.
According to the police report, Ong suddenly pulled out the gun from his waist and fired upward after a heated argument with his ex-girlfriend who works in the bar.
Initial investigation disclosed that the reason for the quarrel was the woman's decision to break up with the suspect.
After recieving a report about the incident, members of Valenzuela City Police Station (VCPS), Special Reaction Unit, and Dalandanan Police Sub-Station conducted a dragnet operation that led to Ong's arrest.
Police said the vehicle driven by the suspect was intercepted by responding officers at the corner of McArthur Hi-way and T. Santiago Street, Brgy. Malanday in Valenzuela City.
Authorities recovered an Armscor caliber .45 pistol loaded with one live ammunition, an empty magazine, a magazine assembly filled with ten live ammunition, and a Red Peugeot Sedan.
No one was injured in the incident.
The suspect will be charged for violation of Republic Act (RA) 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), RA 10586 (Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013), and Article 155 of the Revised Penal Code (Alarms and Scandal).
Col. Ponce Rogelio Peñones, acting Northern Police District (NPD) director, commended the NPD members for their quick response on the incident.
Peñones said that the immediate response of the NPD personnel is in accordance with the random visibility patrol and implementation of Oplan S.A.F.E of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
Oplan S.A.F.E. (Seen, Appreciated, Felt Police Officers thru Extra Ordinary Deeds) aims to assign additional police force in Metro Manila for 24 hours to ensure the safety of the people and maintain order and peace in the community.
