Miss Universe Organization President Paula Shugart has announced that the 2022 Miss Universe Competition will be held in January 2023.

Shugart made the announcement in an exclusive interview by Dyan Castillejos for "TV Patrol" aired on ABS-CBN last Sept. 15.

The venue, however, will be announced this week.

"It's a location where people have fun. It's built for tourism, culture, food, and fun. It will be held in January. We're all set and ready. We're excited," said Shugart.

The MUO executive also said that moms and wives will be allowed to join the pageant beginning in 2024.

"This is something that we have been discussing for a long time. We are evolving with time. And if you look at women that can have careers and families, and balanced everything. Miss Universe is a job. So it's not everyone that can handle the job and they need to understand the parameters of what is expected," said Shugart.

Eighty-eight candidates are expected to compete in the 71st Miss Universe Competition.

The Philippine representative in the prestigious beauty pageant is Filipino-Italian model Celeste Cortesi of Pasay City.
