18 towns in Ilocos Sur join simultaneous conduct of coastal clean-up drive

SANTIAGO, Ilocos Sur – Eighteen coastal towns in the province of Ilocos simultaneously conducted a clean-up drive led by the provincial, municipal governments and the Ilocos Sur Environmental Enthusiasts on Sunday morning, Sept. 18.

The activity dubbed as "DALLUYON-September18th for the 18 Coastal LGUs" aims to maintain the cleanliness and preserve the coastal areas to further attract tourists to the beautiful tourist beach areas of the province.

"We need to guard our coastal areas to prepare our province for the purpose of tourism as our road to economic recovery and above all for our next generation," said Governor Jerry Singson.

Singson led the cleanup in the coastal area of Barangay Gabao, Santiago Ilocos Sur, together with Santiago Mayor Michael Miranda, Vice Mayor Josefino Miranda, other municipal and barangay officials, employees of national agencies and private organizations.

The 18 coastal municipalities of Ilocos Sur that are frequented by beach goers include Sinait, Cabugao, San Juan, Magsingal, Sto Domingo, San Vicente, Santa Catalina, Caoayan, Santa, Narvacan, Sta Maria, San Esteban, Santiago, Candon City, Sta Lucia, Sta Cruz, Tagudin and Vigan City.

According to Singson, Dalluyon (Waves) is now a program of the province for coastal towns to make the clean-up drive of the LGU's regular activities for the promotion of tourism.

"We need to recover from the almost two-year pandemic, we need to revive tourism in our province, especially in the upland municipalities that have beautiful tourist spots that are not being developed, that is what we will focus on so that all municipalities can develop from tourism,” Singson said.
