The Navotas City government conducted simultaneous coastal cleanup drive in celebration of the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day 2022.
The cleanup operations were held at Barangays Bagumbayan North, Tangos North and Tangos South, and Tanza Marine Tree Park in the city on Saturday, Sept. 17.
More than 150 individuals participated in the event.
Students, teachers, national and city government employees, barangay officials, and staff from private institutions were among the attendees of the cleanup activity.
Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco urged the participants to make coastal cleanup a practice.
“Navotas is surrounded by bodies of water and many Navoteños live on fishing and other fishing-related activities. It is then our duty to keep our coastal areas clean to maintain the ecosystem in these waters and sustain a healthy aquatic environment,” the mayor said.
“Keeping our environment clean should not only be done as part of events such as the International Coastal Cleanup Day, but should be part of our lifestyle,” he added.
The participants were required to sign and submit a copy of the volunteer data form to record the waste materials they gathered during the event.
They collected trash and debris, including plastic caps, bottles, sachets of product packaging, styrofoam materials, driftwood, and assorted metal
