Maggie Lindemann – who has amassed over one billion combined global streams in the past two years with a string of singles that include the 2x Platinum “Pretty Girl,” “she knows it” and, most recently, “self sabotage” – released her debut album SUCKERPUNCH today.
Maggie will be performing the album live, in its entirety, during her first-ever Los Angeles and New York headline shows. Tickets sold out in two minutes flat for the shows, which will take place at The Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles on Oct. 15 and NYC’s Mercury Lounge on Oct. 19. She’ll also play the Louder Than Life and Aftershock festivals this fall.
Building on the sharp songwriting and singularly honed-in sounds she’d established on her ac- claimed 2021 EP PARANOIA, SUCKERPUNCH chronicles a journey of self-discovery and actualization over the course of its 15 tracks.
“It’s an unexpected punch, a blow you didn’t see coming,” Maggie Lindemann explains. “When I was making this, I had those blows in my own life; when I listened to the album back from start to finish, I realized the entire thing was a sucker punch – for myself, for my fans – and I knew it had to be the title.”
On the rebel anthem “cages,” Maggie delivers a sucker punch to haters who mistake her for someone seeking their approval: “Don’t need your take on what I do (woah)/Lions aren’t meant for cages/Let me live my life,” she sings. In the official video, which premiered today, Maggie and her friends gather in an LA parking lot that’s filled with school buses and under the shadow of a towering church. With boards and beer in hand, they head out for a local skate park. Directed by Vixxion and Sam Fine, the kinetic clip mirrors the punk energy of the track, exploding with unpredictable angles and edits.
V Magazine hailed SUCKERPUNCH as “a detailed web of hyperpop-meets-punk tracks and nostalgic, early aughts punk anthems.” Consequence observed on “self sabotage,” “It’s on brand in the best way for Lindemann, who has a knack for highlighting the experiences of young people — particularly young women — who are finding and using their own voices.”
In addition to the release of SUCKERPUNCH, Maggie will be hosting a Listening Party on Twitter Spaces with Maxwell from Z100 on Monday, Sept. 19 at 5PM PT and an in-store event at Fingerprints Music in Long Beach at 6 PM PT also on Sept 19. She will be joining an in-store event at GuestRoom Records in Louisville, KY on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 5PM.
