Cavite to be included in DOT's Heritage Tourism campaign

The Department of Tourism (DOT) will include the province of Cavite in its Heritage Tourism campaign, Tourism Sec. Christina Garcia Frasco assured on Saturday, Sept. 17.

This in response to Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla's request during a meeting with Frasco where she shared some of her tourism visions for Cavite.

Cavite has a significant role in the country’s colonial past, especially in the nation’s fight for independence. It is one of the first few provinces to cradle the Philippine revolution.

Historical events like the birthday of General Emilio Aguinaldo are commemorated every March 22.

The Kalayaan Festival, which commemorates the heroism of the Caviteños, has the most significant social and cultural importance.

One important event with a religious foundation is the Fiesta de la Reina del Provincia de Cavite, an annual event held every November to honor Cavite’s patroness, Nuestra Señora de la Soledad de Porta Vaga.

Her image is found at San Roque Church in Cavite City.

Revilla said Cavite is replete with history, culture, and cuisine-- things that Frasco wants to focus on as DOT secretary.

“As the President’s directive to light up our tourism promotions, and the recent easing of mask mandates. The Philippines is indeed opening doors to the world,” Frasco said.
