The typhoon with the international name Nanmadol has entered the country’s area of responsibility at around 5:40 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA has given the typhoon a local name Josie.

It said that Josie may not have a direct effect on the country and may already exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Friday evening or early Saturday morning, Sept. 17.

Although it may remain far from the Philippine landmass, PAGASA said the typhoon may enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”

As such, monsoon rains may prevail over Western Visayas, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
