Tropical cyclone Josie (international name: Nanmadol) intensified into a super typhoon as it left the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) at around 10 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16, the State weather bureau said.

Josie only stayed briefly within the PAR, as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced the entry of the typhoon into the area at 5:40 p.m. on Friday.

PAGASA said that Josie may not have a direct effect on the country as it remains far from the Philippine landmass.

However, the super typhoon may enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”

As such, monsoon rains may prevail over Western Visayas, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
