Plate of mosquitoes for kilo of rice: A unique anti-dengue campaign in Tanza, Cavite
CAVITE – A barangay in the municipality of Tanza came up with a unique campaign to prevent the spread of dengue.
Barangay Sanja Mayor launched a program that offers a kilo of rice in exchange for a plate of mosquitoes.

In a post on Barangay Sanja Mayor's Facebook page, residents are advised to use a lightweight plate brushed with oil to collect mosquitoes.
The plates, together with their ID or proof of residency, must be taken to the Barangay Health Center to claim their kilo of rice.
The program is in effect from Sept. 8 to 30.

The municipal government of Tanza declared a dengue outbreak on Aug. 29 after the Rural Health Unit recorded 207 dengue cases – almost double the 109 dengue cases recorded in 2021 and the 125 cases recorded in 2020.
