Police arrested 18 persons in an anti-illegal gambling raid in a resort in Barangay San Rafael, San Pablo City, Laguna on Thursday, Sept. 15.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 4-A director Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. identified the maintainers of the gambling joint as Jeffry Austria and his live-in-partner Shirley Eustaquio.
The resort caretaker pinpointed Austria and Eustaquio as the maintainers of the joint. They had several employees who served as runners and servers.
Police said the Regional Intelligence Division 4-A-Regional Special Operations Unit and San Pablo City Police conducted the raid at 3:20 a.m. at Sandra Torres Resort, Reverina Subdivision.
Sixteen persons were caught in the act while playing poker. Police added that they had their own relievers.
Police recovered P461,406 in bet money, a poker table, 2,000 poker chips, and three sets of playing cards.
The arrested were taken to the San Pablo City Police Station for investigation and proper disposition.
