Over 20,000 gov’t jobs up for grabs

Over 20,000 government jobs are up for grabs for both newly graduates and other qualified Filipinos in roughly 130 government organizations for various roles from administrative work, to IT practitioners and medical staff, among others.

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) announced these job openings as it partnered with leading online job portal JobStreet by SEEK for the third time to encourage job seekers to join the Government Online Career Fair (GOCF) 2022 starting today, Sept. 14 to 23, in line with their commitment to providing future-ready government jobs for Filipinos, particularly fresh graduates. Monthly salaries could range from the lowest entry level of over P12,500 to a high of P100,000 to P130,000 for salary grade 30 or 31.

According to the CSC, the ongoing jobs fair offers various roles such as guidance counselor, administrative aide, revenue officer, engineer, planning officer, medical officer, nurse, etc. Interested applicants can also explore other vacancies for project development officer, accountant, auditor, executive assistant, and information technology officer, among others.

The government Online Career Fair is also in celebration of the 122nd anniversary of civil service in the Philippines and will be joined by more than 120 government agencies including the Department of Health, Department of Environment and Natural Resource, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Bureau of Internal Revenue, Commission on Elections, Development Bank of the Philippines, Energy Regulatory Commission, and many more.

CSC Commissioner Aileen Lourdes A. Lizada said the online job fair will not bypass any hiring procedure but it will cut short the process because the mandatory 90-day publication for jobs opening of various government agencies has already been satisfied through the online platform announcement.

She estimated that the entire hiring process from selection of the application could take a month or two, but noted that two months should be long already.

Lizada further said that graduates with honors and top board passers are among those exempted from taking the CSC exam.

In this third GOCF with CSC, JobStreet by SEEK aims to help and empower fresh graduates who have been facing numerous labor market challenges due to the pandemic.

“For two years since the pandemic, JobStreet and the Civil Service Commission have successfully helped Filipinos find government jobs through online channels. With this year’s online career fair, we hope we’ll be able to empower more candidates with future-ready opportunities,” said JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca.

Since 2020, the GOCF has attracted 200,000 participants, 127 government agencies and 34,000 jobs roles posted on both JobStreet and on the GOCF platform. JobStreet by SEEK also reported over 900,000 web visits during the fair.

Filipinos are drawn to government positions because they find a sense of purpose in public service, steady career progression, great networking opportunities and work-life balance.

With many government jobs open for candidates, JobStreet by SEEK underscored that this is an opportune time for candidates, including fresh graduates, to establish a steady career progression and networking opportunities while finding a sense of purpose through helping the nation. Furthermore, the job portal shares that many government job roles offer a work-life balance which is currently a top priority for most Filipino applicants.

Aside from convenient job applications, the event will also allow candidates to learn more from the webinars conducted by career experts throughout the duration of the job fair. Guest speakers will tackle topics related to working for a digital job, building a website, career in government, government job flexibility, among others.

With more Filipinos still looking for jobs that fit their lifestyle and preference, stiff competition awaits fresh graduates as they enter the workforce, not to mention the returning experienced and even migrant workers. Moreover, young jobseekers in the Philippines face multiple labor market risks such as severe disruptions in education and training, low earnings, limited employment prospects, and magnified job search constraints—all on top of the need for digital tools and devices among employees to secure job opportunities.

“While digital tools and innovation can help continue education and upskilling and is an advantage for the youth, there's much more that is needed to be done for our country to catch up when it comes to internet access, speed, and affordability. The youth needs to be supported in their journey to having access to job opportunities,” shared JobStreet Philippines Head of Marketing Kim Viray.
