Viral video of brutal confrontation of 2 Chinese groups already cleared, NCRPO says
The brutal confrontation between two groups of Chinese, backed by Filipino bodyguards, captured in a video that went viral on social media was already cleared with the identification and filing of charges against those involved, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Police Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said the shooting and stabbing incident in the video happened in an apartment in Parañaque City on July 22 and led to the death of two Chinese identified as Zhang Xialong, 30; and, Ziyu Meng, 30.
"The appropriate complaint against the suspects was already referred to proper authority and with the identification of the majority of them, this case is considered as cleared," said Estomo.
He said charges of murder were already filed against suspect Jeffrey Orlanes who was arrested in a hospital while being treated for the bulletwounds he suffered, four unidentified Chinese nationals and other 16 other Filipino suspects.
Reportedly, a Chinese national, accompanied by bodyguards that included Filipinos, went to the apartment on July 22 to demand the payment of debt from another Chinese national.
The shooting and stabbing erupted when one of the victims suddenly pulled out a gun in the middle of the discussion.
In the video, the man who pulled out the gun was shot while another one was repeatedly stabbed by a Chinese.
Police were able to build a case with the help of CCTV footages and testimonies of some witnesses.
Estomo said they are now conducting follow-up operations to arrest the remaining suspects.
“We assure the people that we will not allow the activities of lawless elements to prevail, especially foreigners doing crimes in our country. I directed our tracker teams to intensify their manhunt operations to put the at-large suspects behind bars and make sure that all those involved in this incident will suffer the consequences of their evil deeds," said Estomo.
"Furthermore, recent extensive planning and pro-active measures pertaining to the same incident as this shall be put in place to avoid the future occurence of the same," he added.
