The Quezon City local government provided financial assistance to 846 residents through its Pangkabuhayan QC program at the Quezon City Memorial Circle on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Under City Ordinance SP 3071, Pangkabuhayang QC Assistance Program was institutionalized alongside the allocation of funds for livelihood assistance to help boost the local economy of the city.
It aims to provide capital assistance and livelihood training to displaced workers, microentrepreneur/vendors, overseas Filipino workers, persons with disabilities, unemployed solo parents, and indigent city residents.
According to the local government, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte wanted to provide opportunities for residents to rise again and be able to start their businesses despite the pandemic.
The beneficiaries may receive capital assistance amounting to P10,000 up to P20,000.
The mayor also emphasized the importance of being brave, strong, persistent, determined, hardworking, and disciplined as an entrepreneur.
It also provides training to aspiring micro-entrepreneurs or business beginners to help them develop options.
Most beneficiaries' businesses include food retail, restaurants and stalls, general retail, clothes, and accessories, and others.
Pangkabuhayan QC program recently completed its phase one with 18 batches involving 25,000 residents who underwent proper screening.
Meanwhile, the distribution of the city's Small Income Generating Assistance (SIGA) program also took place on the same day, where 500 residents were given assistance for their additional capital and financing for their respective businesses.
The SIGA is the capital assistance program provided for sari-sari store owners and other small business owners in the city granted by the Social Services Development Department (SSDD) of Quezon City government.
