The victim was identified as Alex Estrada.

Lt. Col. Necerato Sabando Jr., Hinigaran police chief, said Estrada was already asleep when the suspects entered his nipa hut at around 11:20 p.m.

Rasel dela Peña and a certain “Glendy," both sugarcane workers, allegedly hacked the victim with a bolo, and fled, Sabando said.

Estrada suffered multiple hack wounds and was declared dead on arrival in a hospital.

Police are looking into grudges as possible motive of the murder.

Sabando said that Dela Peña would usually become unruly whenever he's drunk, according to barangay officials.

However, police could not tell if he was drunk when he committed the crime.

Sabando said that Dela Peña surrendered to the police in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on Monday, Sept. 12, and was later turned over to the custody of Hinigaran Municipal Police Station.

His companion is still at large. Suspects will be charged with murder.
