7 injured in Cotabato City grenade blast


COTABATO CITY – Seven persons, including a minor, were injured in a grenade explosion in a bar here on Sunday, Sept. 11.

Authorities have ruled out terrorism as motive in the incident.

City Mayor Bruce Matabalao described the incident as isolated, triggered by warring groups who were having a drinking spree inside the nightspot on Notre Dame Ave., Barangay Rosary Heightsat around 9 p.m.

Matabalao directed the local police under Col. Querubin Manalang to get into the bottom of the incident and file appropriate charges against the perpetrators.

The Cotabato City mayor said the city government and police are set to come up with security measures for local bars and restaurants to avoid a repeat of the incident.

Capt. Kenneth Rosales, Police Station 1 commander, said two warring groups of customers triggered the grenade explosion.

Police recovered a safety lever for MK2 fragmentation grenade from the blast site.

Probers said they have already established leads on the identities of the perpetrators.
