Two senators on Sunday, September 11 lauded Alex Eala for her historic win in the Grand Slam singles title in the 2022 US Open girls singles competition in New York.
Eala, 17, is now the first Filipino to win a tennis grandslam singles title.
Senator Pia Cayetano, an athlete herself, congratulated Eala in a statement, saying the country’s tennis ace is an inspiration for the youth and the nation.
“With the right training and exposure, Filipino athletes can excel in the world stage,” Cayetano said in a statement.
“Salamat at mabuhay ka, Alex Eala, sa pagiging isang maningning na inspirasyon sa mga kabataan at sa ating bayan sa iyong panalo sa US Open (Thank you Alex Eala for being a shining inspiration for our youth and for our country when you won the US Open),” she further said.
Sen. Nancy Binay also expressed her heartfelt congratulations to Eala for bringing home the Philippines' first ever Singles Grandslam in Tennis.
“Maraming salamat, Alex, sa karangalan at papuri na iyong inaani para sa bansa (Thank you so much Alex, for the honor you reaped for the country),” Binay said in a separate statement.
“Isa kang inspirasyon sa bawat Pilipino at patunay na anumang pangarap ay kaya nating abutin basta't mayroon tayong pagsisikap, tiyaga, at pananampalataya sa sarili't at sa Maykapal (You are an inspiration for every Filipino and it only shows that we can achieve our dreams if we are diligent, patient and have faith in ourselves and our Creator),” she pointed out.
“Isang mainit na pagbati sa iyong tagumpay! Mabuhay ang atletang Pilipino!” Cayetano stressed.
