DPWH fast-tracks P213-M Bacolod Museum project

The construction of the P213 million worth Bacolod City Museum project that will house inscriptions of history, culture, and artifacts of the Negrenses is being accelerated the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced Saturday, Sept. 10.

DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno said the Phase 1 of the structure located in Barangay Alijis near the new Bacolod Government Center is now almost half-completed.

He said the multi-purpose building will be known as the Bacolod City Museum and Auditorium.

The two-storey structure has a 4,800 square meters floor area that will serve as the memorial of the historic events, culture, artistry, and resourcefulness of the Negrenses in the early days.

Bueno said an initial amount of P163 million was released in 2020 for the construction of the gallery, which is now halfway completed. Phase 1 includes the design and building of the main structure, while Phase 2 with an allocation of P50 million, will be for the provision of architectural features.

“Soon to become a major tourist attraction in Western Visayas, the museum is expected to usher in a brand-new era of cultural preservation in Bacolod as it contributes to the education, cultural, and tourism goals of the city, which will also help revitalize the province’s economy,” said Bueno.

Bueno also noted that the project that was funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2020 and 2021 was considered a green building-certified development, saying they use environment-friendly and energy-efficient materials for the Bacolod Museum.
