Trough of 'Inday' may bring rains over S. Luzon, Visayas, says PAGASA

Although less likely to bring heavy rains in the country, the trough or extension of tropical storm Inday (international name: Muifa) is expected to affect Southern Luzon and Visayas, the state weather bureau said on Thursday evening, Sept. 8.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Inday has decelerated. It was last spotted 885 kilometers (km) east of Central Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

It is moving westward at 10 kph.

“Aside from rain showers caused by its trough, tropical storm Inday remains less likely to bring heavy rains in the country,” said PAGASA in its 11 p.m. bulletin.

Residents of Bicol region, Samar provinces, Calabarzon, and MIMAROPA were warned against the possible rain showers that the trough of Inday may bring.

“The latest forecast scenario shows that the hoisting of tropical cyclone wind signals over any land area in the country remains unlikely,” the state weather bureau added.

Within 12 hours, Inday is expected to reach the severe tropical storm category. Meanwhile, based on the latest forecast track, the weather disturbance is now expected to exit the Philippine boundary on Monday, Sept. 12 or Tuesday, Sept. 13.
