MB Daily News Update: Farewell, Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving British monarch, has passed away at the age of 96.

The iconic leader's death ended a reign 70 years long, one that covered 15 prime ministers including fellow icon Winston Churchill.

Queen Elizabeth II is survived by her four children: Prince Charles, 73; Princess Anne, 72; Prince Andrew, 62; and Prince Edward, 58.

With the Queen's passing, Prince Charles of Wales immediately took over the throne as King Charles III. He is the father of Prince William and Prince Harry.

Before this, Charles, husband of the late Princess Diana, was the oldest heir apparent in British history.

Among many things, Queen Elizabeth II is known for her self-styled look--that of brightly colored dresses and a matching a hat.

Meanwhile, here at home, the House Committee on Appropriations has surged past the halfway mark in the tedious per agency budget deliberations in connection with the proposed P5.268-trillion national budget for 2023.

The appropriations panel has terminated or concluded budget briefings for 21 departments, leaving 13 still up for hearings. The lower chamber is expected to finish the individual budget deliberations next week.

House leaders had earlier said that the proposed 2023 spending plan--the biggest in the country's history--is still on track for approval on third and final reading by Oct. 1, 2022.
