Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval led the inauguration of the newly renovated Hulong Duhat Plaza located at the Woman’s Club Street, Brgy. Hulong Duhat, in the city on Thursday, Sept. 8.
The local government said the renovation of the plaza was part of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) “Adopt-A-Park” project that aims to rehabilitate open spaces in different cities in Metro Manila into functional green parks.
It added that the City Planning and Development Department (CPDD) initially designed the park to be “ecologically thematic" to raise public awareness on renewable energy since it has solar-powered lights.
The plaza features a lighted fountain, solar floor lights, three chess tables, swing benches, kiddie rides, and an open space where children can play different traditional Filipino games like "piko," "patintero," "tumbang preso" and others. Residents can also conduct zumba activities in the park.
Hundreds of Malabonian families witnessed the first lighting of the fountain in the park, the local government said.

Acting MMDA Chairman Carlo Dimayuga III, City Administrator Alexander Rosete, and city department heads attended the event.
Dimayuga attributed the plaza's design to the rich culture, history, and scenic places of the city.
The local government said that the area used to be a park and a "tiangge" (flea market).
Sandoval thanked the MMDA for its help in rehabilitating the park which will now serve as a leisure spot for the families in the city.
She also expressed the city's willingness to engage with the MMDA in improving other parks in the city which she believes will help in boosting the economy and tourism in the city.
Barangay Hulong Duhat Chairman Wenceslao Dela Cruz also thanked the mayor and the MMDA for reviving the park. He said families stand to benefit from it since it is located near the schools, markets, and residential areas.
The local government reminded the resident to always observe Covid-19 health and safety protocols when visiting the park.
