TABUK CITY, Kalinga – A 37-year-old dental technician was killed while his companion was seriously wounded after they were shot by a man for no reason in a restobar here on Thursday, Sept. 8.
Col. Peter Tagtag Jr., Kalinga Provincial Police Office chief, identified the fatality as Joegie Valera Cabicungan of Prurok 3, Bulanao, here.
Police said Cabicungan and his friend, Orland Dave Pascual, also a dental technician, of Sitio Baligatan, Purok 6, Bulanao, this city, were drinking inside the restobar at 12:45 a.m. when the suspect, Hansky Casingoy Sagmayao, 21, who was on a nearby table with three companions, approached and shot the victims.
Lawmen received a call about the incident but when they arrived, restobar staff had rushed the victims to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital here. Cabicungan was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Ramby Danao while Pascual was in serious condition due to bullet wounds.
Tagtag said the suspect, who was identified through closed circuit television camera as the gunman, fled along with his companions but they were all arrested in Isla Basao, San Juan, this city, in a follow-up operation.
Police declined to identify the suspect’s companions who were also seen in the CCTV as they had no participation in the incident.
A thorough investigation is being conducted and the corresponding case against the suspect will be filed.
