Davao City Mayor Baste wants review of Paquibato District investments
DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte here wants every investment in Paquibato District carefully assessed to prevent the displacement and exploitation of the Lumad people from their ancestral domain.

Atty. Jonah Presto, focal person for Peace 911, said that Paquibato, an area affected by communist insurgency, has drawn a growing number of interest from investors who want to invest there after the city government initiated the Peace 911 to extend, among others, basic services to Lumad residents.
She added that Duterte wants lumads to be empowered and their communities to become “sustainable” instead of relying on investors for their livelihood.
Presto said the city government has lined up agricultural programs for the indigenous people to improve and expand agriculture in Paquibato to empower and keep them from the influence of the New People’s Army.
She said the government helps them connect with the market for their produce and supports them to establish cooperatives.
