Employees from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) practiced the "duck, cover, and hold’ approach as they participated in the third quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on Thursday, September 8.

Personnel of the Office of the Flight Surgeon and Aviation Medicine (OFSAM) simulated disaster damage and injury scenarios, and implemented its emergency medical service procedures during the drill that started at 9 a.m.
The CAAP's participation in the NSED was spearheaded by Assistant Director General for Administration and Finance, Capt. Thomas Tannhauser A. Fortun, and Admin Department Acting Chief, Ms. Nicole Ramos.

Meanwhile, CAAP airports and area centers in Virac, Masbate, Laguindingan, Siquijor, Butuan, San Jose, Sangley, Dipolog, Ipil, Pagadian, Bohol-Panglao International Airport, Davao International Airport, Puerto Princesa International Airport, and Zamboanga International Airport also joined the nationwide earthquake drill and conducted exercises which included briefing, evacuation, search and rescue operations, and response to casualty incidents.

The third quarter NSED was the first face-to-face earthquake drill launched by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
