Teachers to receive P1,000 as World Teachers' Day incentive: DepEd
For this year, the Department of Education (DepEd) announced that public school teachers nationwide will continue to receive P1,000 as World Teachers’ Day (WTD) incentive.

“We will continue with the P1,000 incentive para sa pagpupugay sa ating mga (to honor our) teachers,” said DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa during a press conference on Thursday, Sept. 8.
In line with the government’s commitment to faithfully support teachers for their dedication to delivering quality education, DepEd has been giving teachers a World Teachers’ Day Incentive Benefit (WTDIB) in the amount of P1,000 per public school teacher.
In 2021, the total cost of the WTDIB was P910 million.
Introduced during the administration of former Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones, the grant of WTDIB recognizes the vital role of educators in addressing the challenges in the education sector.
On Sept. 5, DepEd formally announced the start of the month-long celebration of the 2022 National Teachers’ Month (NTM).

On Sept. 6, the 2022 NTM kick-off celebration was hosted by the Schools Division of Davao Del Norte.
Poa said that a program will be held on Oct. 5 which is also the culmination of the NTM and the celebration of the National Teachers’ Day in the Philippines and World Teachers’ Day across the globe.
Echoing the message of Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte during the NTM kick-off, Poa underscored the important role of teachers in nation-building.
“Napaka-importante po talaga ng papel na ginagampanan ng ating mga guro sa pagpapa-unlad sa ating bansa (The role played by our teachers in the development of our country is very important),” Poa said.
“Sila po ang katuwang ng ating mga magulang at pati rin ng ating pamahalaan para mahubog ang ating mga kabataan at para makamit nila ang kanilang mga pangarap (They are the partners of our parents and also of our government in shaping our young people so they can achieve their dreams),” he added.
Poa said that DepEd also recognizes the sacrifice, dignity, and integrity of teachers. “And that is why hindi po tayo napapagod na makining sa kanilang mga hinaing (we will never get tired of listening to their grievance),” he added.
While DepEd cannot resolve all their problems and concerns overnight or over the next few weeks, Poa said that part of the agency endeavors to address their problems.
"Hopefully, we can provide them --- at the end of our term --- a more conducive teaching environment,” Poa said.
