Magnitude 4.6 quake hits Catanduanes


An earthquake with a magnitude measuring 4.6 jolted Catanduanes around 4:54 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Based on the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology’s (Phivolcs) bulletin issued at 6:52 p.m. on Thursday, the epicenter of the earthquake was recorded 49 kilometers (km) southeast of Baras, Catanduanes.

It was tectonic in origin, indicating that it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

Reported intensity IV was documented in Baras and Gigmoto in Catanduanes while intensity III was recorded in Bato, Catanduanes.

No aftershocks and damage are expected to follow this seismic event.
