Tropical storm Inday enters PH area of responsibility

The tropical storm east of Northern Luzon entered the Philippine area of responsibility at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

It was given the local name Inday—the country’s 9th tropical cyclone for 2022.

In its 11 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the storm has maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph, and was moving west-southwestward at 15 kph.

PAGASA said Inday is “unlikely to directly affect the weather condition in the country within the forecast period.”

“The tropical storm is forecast to move generally west-northwestward in the next 24 hours. Afterwards, a further northwestward turn may begin on Thursday (Sept. 8). Intensification into severe tropical storm is likely in the next 24 hours (while) further intensification may occur as the tropical cyclone moves over the Philippine Sea,” PAGASA said.

However, Inday may cause moderate to rough seas over the seaboards of extreme Northern Luzon over the weekend.

“These conditions may be risky for those using small seacrafts. Mariners are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions,” PAGASA said.
