Several injured after drop tower ride malfunctions in India

Around 16 people were injured after a carnival drop tower ride malfunctioned in India last Sunday, Sept 4.

According to a report from Hindustan Times, a drop tower ride malfunctioned and crashed 50 feet to the ground at the Phase 8 amusement park in Punjab’s Mohali district on Sunday night.

At least 50 riders were reported to be on the drop tower ride.

“We will find out how this happened. It seems there was a technical issue. Earlier too, we organized several fetes but this has never happened. We will cooperate with the police and administration,” organizer Sunny Singh told the Hindustan Times.

The injured riders have been admitted at the civil hospital in Phase-6 and in Fortis Hospital, Mohali.

Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Harsimran Singh Bal said they are investigating the incident.

“A carnival was being organized and the eyewitness told us that there was a technical snag in the swing and it had fallen,” DSP Bal told Indian Express.
