A total of 556 members of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) in Quezon City's sixth district received fleet cards with P1,000 fuel subsidy from the local government on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
The fleet cards were distributed by virtue of City Ordinance SP 3100, Series 2022, signed by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and enacted in March 2022, that aims to help tricycles for hire with franchise in the city from the unprecedented increase in fuel prices.
The fleet card contains P1,000 fuel voucher which tricycle drivers can use up to P400 a day, the local government said. The distribution started in July 2022.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte led the distribution of fleet cards along with District 6 Action Officer lawyer Mark Aldave, and QC Tricycle Regulation Division chief Ben Ibon III.
Ibon said that they are aiming to provide fleet cards to more than 23,000 operators and drivers in the city.
He added that there are a total 4,345 drivers and operators who have received their fleet cards as of Sept. 7.
"We already gave P500 sometime I think March or April bilang subsidy tapos yun tuloy-tuloy pa din. Yung Sangguniang Panlunsod nagpassed na naman ng ordinansa for another additional 1,000 . So meron po silang lahat matatanggap na 1,000 fuel subsidy through their fleet cards (We have already given P500 sometime I think March or April as subsidy, and it is still ongoing. The City Council again passed an ordinance for an additional 1,000 . So they will all receive a 1,000 fuel subsidy through their fleet cards)," Belmonte said in an interview with DZBB Super Radyo.
The mayor also encouraged residents to report to the city government tricycle drivers who are asking for a fare that is higher than the fare matrix approved by the city government.
She also reminded tricycle drivers not to pass through national government highways and to follow traffic rules and regulations.
