K-pop girl group BLACKPINK unveiled the main track of their upcoming album that will be released next week.
On Sept. 6, BLACKPINK announced that “Shut Down” will be the lead track of their “Born Pink” album that will be dropped at 1 p.m. KST (noon in the Philippines) on Sept. 16.
“The word ‘shut down’ represents closure of a certain space. It’s an intuitive yet mysterious title. The song will make music fans around the world curious about what kind of stories BLACKPINK will unfold, as the group has been taking over the hearts of global fans with their unrivaled charisma and girl-crush charms,” said YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK’s agency, according to the company blog.
BLACKPINK earlier unveiled the concept posters for the album featuring Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé.
They earlier released “Pink Venom,” which topped the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US charts.
“Pink Venom” has topped the charts for two straight weeks, according to Billboard.
For the Sept. 10-dated charts, “BLACKPINK’s ‘Pink Venom’ adds a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200, as the South Korean act’s first leader on the list drew 108.4 million streams (down 49%) and sold 7,000 downloads (down 81%) worldwide in the Aug. 26-Sept. 1 tracking week,” according to Billboard.
“BLACKPINK’s ‘Pink Venom’ concurrently crowns the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart for a second week, as the group’s second leader (after ‘Lovesick Girls,’ in October 2020) tallied 99.5 million streams (down 50%) and sold 5,000 (down 84%) in territories outside the U.S. in the Aug. 26-Sept. 1 tracking week,” it added.
