Basilan troops foil possible bomb attack after discovery of explosives in abandoned house

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Troops under Joint Task Force Basilan foiled a possible bomb attack after the discovery of explosive materials inside an abandoned house in Barangay Seronggon, Hadji Mohammad Adjul in Basilan Province on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Military authorities were alerted to the presence of explosive materials by a tipster who revealed that explosives were fabricated inside an abandoned house at Sitio Marang Marang in Tuburan Proper, Hadji Mohammad Ajul by Abu Sayyaf Group members Tawakal Bayali alias Jaber and a certain Mudzfal.

The two are said to be followers of ASG subleader Pasil Bayali aka Kerah.

Brig. Gen. Domingo Gobway, Joint Task Force Basilan commander, said his personnel found two rounds of rocket-propelled grenade, one round of 40mm high explosive grenade launcher, four blasting caps, detonating cord and time fuse.

The 39th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team was immediately deployed for the safe extraction of the explosive items.

Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, Western Mindanao Command chief, commended the Joint Task Force Basilan members for their swift action in preventing a possible bomb attack by the Abu Sayyaf Group.

He also attributed the accomplishment to the concerned citizen who relayed the important information to the military.

“I urge everyone to remain vigilant and cooperative,” said Del Rosario.

“Let us continue to do our share in preventing our heartless enemies from executing their terroristic activities,” added Del Rosario.
