Healthcare workers stage protest at DOH office over unpaid benefits, low wages

Healthcare workers' groups staged a rally in front of the Department of Health (DOH) main office in Manila on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Led by the Alliance of Health Workers (AHW), health workers held placards as they demanded the government to release their Coid-19 benefits, as well as the increase in their pay.

They also decried the lack of budget in the country's healthcare system.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. recently expressed his gratitude to all Filipino nurses for their sacrifices during the pandemic during the 100th founding anniversary of the Philippine Nurses Association held at the Manila Hotel on Sept 1.

As of August 19, Marcos Jr. noted that a total of P25.82 billion worth of benefits for healthcare workers had already been disbursed by the government.

He, however, admitted that the benefits given to Filipino nurses are still not enough but said there is not much that the government can do due to lack of funds.

Marcos Jr. vowed to address the issues facing the country's health workers.
