A man was arrested while his cohort escaped following a carnapping incident along Quirino Highway in Pangarap Village, Caloocan City Monday, Sept. 5.
According to the Northern Police District (NPD), one of the suspects was nabbed along Quirino Highway at about 11 p.m. on complaint of Alex Roberto Ursal Tiro, 53, a Grab driver, who claimed that his Black Suzuki Zias was stolen on Monday evening.
Police identified the arrested suspect as Mark Chris Oliva Huttala. His cohort, alias "Rogie Bugnot", managed to flee.
According to the police, the victim pulled over to transfer money to his bank account from his Gcash when the suspects forcibly boarded his vehicle.
One of the suspects sat at the back seat behind the victim and pointed a bladed weapon at his neck.
The other suspect, who was reportedly armed with a gun, sat next to the victim and ordered the latter to move to the back seat of the car.
The gunman then took over the driver seat and drove towards San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. They dropped off the victim at Rosana Heights, San Jose del Monte, and fled.
Police tracked down the suspects in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, through the GPS of the victim’s cell phone that was also taken by the suspects.
Upon reaching Evergreen Subdivision in Brgy. Gaya-gaya, San Jose del Monte, the victim saw the two suspects walking.
The suspects, however, noticed the presence of the police and ran to escape.
Huttala was apprehended but "Rogie Bugnot" evaded arrest.
Upon arrest, Huttala admitted to his crime. The stolen vehicle was recovered at Crispulo St., Mountain Heights, Brgy. 180, Caloocan City.
The arrested suspect was taken to Dr. Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium in Tala, Caloocan City for medical examination before he was brought to Amparo Police Sub-Station 15 for filing of appropriate charges.
